Physical Computing

Have been learning about physical computing using the open source hard ware platform Arduino for the last 2 weeks. Taught by excellently named Massimo Banzi, who is actually one of the creators of the Arduino.

One little project we created over the course was the ‘I Love You’ project. We recreated an old morse code machine using 2 Arduinos that can communicate with each other. One can send a morse code message over the wires to another one, which plays the message aloud. We eventually programmed the sending arduino to continually send the message ‘I Love You’ continuously to the other arduino. We wanted to show that the telegraph’s revolution is similar to the internet revolution and that people will always use technology in their own way, no matter what we predict. Here’s some photos of the device along with an ecerpt from the excellent book about the telegraph, The Victorian Internet.
