Spotted this video from Interaction ‘09 in Vancouver a few weeks ago. It’s the keynote speech by Robert Fabricant of Frog Design, who talks a lot about leveraging people’s emotional responses to devices & services to create new behaviours in people. A lot of his examples revolve around sustainability and health care, and showing how more clever use of design and understanding of psychology can result in larger changes. Simply showing a bar chart to people does nothing. How can we make it more relevant and emotionally charged?
We’re currently working on a Service Design project for COPD (a chronic lung disease) sufferers in Denmark, and one of the things we’re looking at is self monitoring & self teaching, so that people can learn about their bodies and also change some of their bad habits to have a higher quality of life.
